OUR STORY
-----
Our purpose is simple: to make you smile.

THE SHORT &
SWEET OF IT:
From our logo, to our otter-ly punny catch-phrase, to each one of our treats and sweets, our goal is to make you smile. This has been our founders intent from the very beginning.
Sarah discovered baking sitting on a corner counter in her parent's kitchen in Central Jersey. She soon realized one of the main reasons she kept baking was the smile she hoped would cross a persons face when they took their first bite (and their second and their third hopefully).
After graduate school she baked professionally for two years before striking out on her own and starting Pipit's Bakery, a homage to her father's nickname for her growing up.
Her otterly adorable mascot came out of her love of those playful and fierce creatures. Plus, who can't not smile when they see an otter holding a wooden mixing spoon.

THE LADY, THE NAME, & THE OTTER
THE LADY
Sarah Kauzmann, founder and owner of Pipit's Bakery, grew up baking sitting on the corner counter in her parent's kitchen in Central Jersey.
After college and graduate school, she searched for something that sparked joy in herself and those she worked with and for. She quickly realized a desk job was not for her so she decided to give baking a go by accepting a position as an assistant pastry chef in a small town bakery.
She learned quickly, soaking up every bit of knowledge she could from the other chefs she worked with and after many 12-28 hour shifts (yes 28), she made it through her first holiday season (two pastry chefs baking 800 pies over Thanksgiving and Christmas).
Two years later (and in the middle of the pandemic) she decided to take the leap and start her own bakery company. She began small, renting a commercial kitchen in Perkasie, PA where she grew a network of friends from other local businesses and a wonderful group of customers.
In 2025, four and a half years into the start of the business, she decided to take another leap: she put her business on pause for 6 months to build out a commercial kitchen in her basement with the help of her parents, brother, and sister in law. She couldn't be happier to start this next chapter in her bakery journey and make many more otterly delicious goods for years to come.

THE NAME
Sarah grew up in a tight knit family with wonderful parents and an older brother who all encouraged her to follow her dreams and have fun in life.
To this day Sarah's dad calls her and her brother by nicknames he came up with when they were children; there was Fat Boy for her brother (lovingly given due to his chubby 9 pound weight when he was born), and, you guessed it, Pipit for Sarah.
Sarah always loved the name, thinking of it as fun and vibrant, so when it came time to think of a name for the business, she knew Pipit would be perfect.
Disclaimer from my dad: he spells it "pippet" and even sometimes refers to me as "pips" but I thought Pipit was a bit easier to remember.
THE OTTER
As you may have guessed, otters are one of Sarah's favorite animals but the use of the otter goes beyond the liking of an animal.
Otters are fun-loving, playful creatures who are both adorable and fierce. They're an unexpected mascot for a baking brand which makes them perfect for us.
Our brand is all about fun, unexpected, and beautiful baked goods all run by a fierce lady in command.
Plus who doesn't love thinking about an otter baking?
Bonus logo story: the wooden spoon the otter is holding pays homage to the wooden spoon Sarah used to use growing up baking with her mom. In high school, the wooden spoon cracked and her dad epoxied it bak together so she still has it to this day (although she doesn't use it to bake anymore since the epoxy was not food-safe).
